University Foundation Programme

Going to University in another country is probably the bravest thing you will ever do!

There is a lot to think about and plan. UIC can take you through the application process AND the academic process. UIC will help you choose the best university for you. We will help you apply to any university within the UCAS system.

The UIC University Foundation Course Programme can help you to gain the level of English and the IELTS score you need. It gives you a breadth of knowledge and insight which will not only help you in the IELTS exam, but also feed into your success at university. The Foundation programme is suitable for those aiming for both undergraduate and post-graduate courses at British universities.

FOCUS ON CONTEXT

LANGUAGE

AT UNIVERSITY YOU WILL BE STUDYING IN English – so you need to be proficient at all the four skills: Reading , Writing, Listening and Speaking. We make sure you can read quickly and accurately, that your pronunciation and grammar are strong, and that your written work is clear and correct.

There are regular modules of IELTS preparation right from the start of the course, so that you gain in confidence and experience.

Later you learn how to apply your language skills in an academic context as we work with longer and more complex texts and tapes. You will learn how to write longer essays, take lecture notes, and read university style texts.

STUDY SKILLS

There are techniques which can make studying easier! We will teach you techniques for learning, revising and organizing yourself , and ensure that you will be able to do what is expected of you in higher education.

FOCUS ON CONTENT

You need to put your language and study skills into practice! You need to be able to read, listen to lectures, write and talk about your subject in English!

Business Option

The syllabus includes: Influences on Business, Organisation of Business, Functions of Business, The Role of Management, Business Values, and Culture and Communication in Business.

Humanities Option

This option is suitable for students who are planning to study subjects within the humanities, e.g. Art, Sociology, or sciences. The syllabus is based on the British ‘General Studies' Advanced Level exam syllabus. This option gives you an insight into your chosen subject and a chance to ‘taste' some others, as well as improving your vocabulary and language skills.

Cultural Studies Option

We put your increasing skills into practice with a syllabus covering British History and Geography and modern British society.

“The reason why I joined the Foundation Course is very simple. I was scared of British universities, thinking that I would not be able to face the responsibility of my new academic life. I also had some problems with expressing my thoughts in English and writing academic essays.

Now, because of the structure and organisation of the Foundation Course I know I am prepared for the university and I feel confident communicating with native speakers. I am grateful to my teachers for being so patient and dedicated. They are very professional, as we say strict but fair.

I can't help mentioning that I passed the IELTS exam and got 8.0 score. Also I have received three offers from London universities.”
