Learn FRENCH in london

Learning French is simple with UIC - whether it is for professional reasons or just for pleasure you will find UIC has the experience and the skills to deliver what you need. We take a proactive and detailed approach to your language learning journey with us - from initial needs analysis and level testing through to delivery. You can learn in our centrally located school - either in small group classes (max 12) or on an individual basis. We can also visit you in your company or even at home if that is more convenient for you. When we first discuss your language needs we will explain the different options open to you. For some of our clients a class, once a week, is the perfect way to start or to improve. For others we can tailor a special course with a specialised teacher and can deliver French tuition for very particular purposes.

We are effectively a French School in London where you can learn from the beginning or build on your existing knowledge. Group Lessons include a balance of conversation, listening, pronunciation and grammar which will help you survive and communicate in everyday situations in French speaking countries. With the aid of a text book, the syllabus aims to provide useful, relevant language using up-to-date and interesting materials, as well as encouraging participants to practice the language to help confidence and develop fluency. Our standard French courses are 10 weeks, 2 hours once a week. There may be the odd occasion when you are not able to attend all the classes in one course and we always offer 'catch up' lessons if you are falling behind.

French is one of the Romance languages and closely connected to Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian, Sardinian and Catalan. French is still widely spoken throughout the world – by something over 80 million people, in countries from Vietnam to the Ivory Coast to Togo you will still be able to speak and do business in French, and in France, Belgium and Switzerland you may have no choice! Being so close to the UK and having a developed and growing economy it is one of the UK’s important trade partners. So, whatever the reason, whether it’s a holiday, business, to learn what you didn’t at school or just for the pleasure of learning a language we can help give you the opportunity to
embark on that challenge.

We have classes at several different levels – you can check in the SYLLABUS section to see what we cover at each of the different levels or just call us to talk about your language learning history. We are in the office every day after 10.30 are able to assess your level in person and often on the phone - 0207 307 1980 Find a French School in France or Switzerland? Contact us.

Language Test

When you choose to do a course with us, the first thing we do is to test your level. We have classes at different levels and it is vital you are in the right place for the most effective learning.

Our classes are organised into the following levels

Beginners

Beginners Plus

Elementary

Pre Intermediate

Intermediate

Upper Intermediate

Advanced

Proficiency

You can see how the syllabus is constructed by following the link to syllabus and in many cases this will give you a good idea before you start. Our levels are also mapped onto the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages which will give you a detailed list of the kinds of things you should be able to do at different levels.

For non-European languages the situation is a bit more complicated, as well as the normal spoken language (introductions, talking about yourself, etc) we will need to know other more specific things. For Chinese we will need to know whether you have learned the pinyin (the 4 tones in Mandarin) and for Japanese the Hiragana (one of the writing systems in Japanese). In Japanese this will be followed at higher levels by learning the Katakana and then the Kanji.

Obviously if you are a beginner the situation is not very complicated. One of the most common questions we are asked about level is from people who studied in the past – maybe GCSE at school several years ago- and to find that level really depends on what has happened since then. It might be the case that a grade C at GCSE 10 years ago means a beginners’ class is best while an A 2 years ago might mean a higher level. Our classes are mainly communicative so there is an emphasis on speaking. This is not always matched by experience of having learned a language at school.

Please try our online tests or if you'd prefer to talk to us about your level please call - 0207 307 1980.
