Sheina, English Teacher
I was born and brought up in London so teaching in this wonderful city is a joy for me. Students like to hear my tips about what to do in London and the best places to eat fish and chips! I love travelling, learning about different cultures and other languages. I have also lived abroad so know what it's like to live away from friends and family. Students tell me that I inspire and motivate them to learn English and this is what I love most about teaching.

Robin, Assistant Director of Studies
For as long as I can remember I've always been interested in foreign things; foreign art, foreign food, foreign geography, culture and people. So naturally, I always wanted to learn foreign languages, maybe they would help to meet all these interesting foreign people. I learned French at school and became a French teacher. Then I thought, 'well, it would be nice to live abroad for a few years and teach adults'. So the answer was to become an English teacher. And I've been talking to interesting foreign people ever since.

The dynamic and international atmosphere of students coming from all over the world to learn languages at UIC makes working here a very exciting and unique experience. The teachers have lots of initiative and love what they are doing, and so do the other staff at UIC. Everybody is very nice and helpful. I have worked in a language school in Berlin before and since I've learned English, French and Spanish as foreign languages myself, I always enjoyed speaking languages and the chance of getting to know different nationalities.

The challenges of teaching, whether in groups, one to ones, children or adults are always stimulating and motivating. The rewards are enabling students to gain confidence as people, widen their life expectations and form new, possibly life-long friendships. Unbeatable.

I have always enjoyed travelling and meeting new people and this is exactly what I get to do with my job. During my time at UIC I have been to many beautiful places and met a range of people from different cultures while promoting UIC. This gives me great satisfaction as I believe UIC is a lovely environment to learn English. The city, London, is also a great city to be a student. As a registrar at UIC I enjoy hearing from and communicating with people from all around the world every day and this has really helped me broaden my own horizons. Where else would I get a chance to meet so many different people from so many different backgrounds. Being the first point of contact for many of our students before they even arrive in the UK is incredibly rewarding. I love giving tips and advice about accommodation and courses and about what's on in this amazing bustling city of London. deborahe@uiclondon.com

I've been working with UIC since April 2011; I love the job, the people, and of course the location! I grew up in Kent and London has always been an intriguing, exciting place to visit so I love that I have the opportunity to work in one of the best capitals for culture and entertainment. It offers so much to everyone, and you're never stuck wondering what to do with an evening. It's the ideal place for learning English, meeting people from around the world and expanding your knowledge of other cultures. francescas@uiclondon.com

Wendy, Director of Studies
What I love about our school is the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of the place, both among the teachers and administration staff and among the students themselves. It really is a fantastic place to work and study and the whole of the 'West End' is on your doorstep!
My job is to help and advise students on their English progress and English language courses at UIC, so if you ever have any questions about your learning, just pop up to see me. I am more than happy to help!
Another important part of my job is to assist and support our excellent teachers to be the best that they can and to love what they do. This team effort means that our students leave UIC, having learnt a new language and, more importantly, having loved learning the language with us! See you when you arrive! wendym@uiclondon.com

I am originally from Colombia but have been working at UIC running the Foreign Language department for the last 7 years. It is really satisfying to see the numbers of people who want to learn a language increase over the years - we are now teaching almost 2000 people a year 10 different languages.
It is also a great place to work! javierz@uiclondon.com

I have been studying foreign languages for many years and found it amazing to see how , little by little, you become able to communicate with people from other countries and get an understanding of their culture. This is also the reason why I decided to become a language teacher myself and to share my passion for languages. In March 2011, I started working at UIC and enjoy teaching here. The atmosphere at the school is just lovely.

What makes London one of the great cities in the world is the great balance between the traditional and the new. There is always something going on - whether it's exhibitions, bands or just walking around you can always find something exciting. As a place to live and learn English - I can't think of a better place to spend a few weeks or a few months - and for sure no better place to live davidw@uiclondon.com

Soledad, Academic Manager Foreign Languages
The best thing about learning a foreign language in London is that you have many opportunities to practise it. We always tell students that in order to learn faster, they need to be in touch with the language as much as possible and practise with friends, watch films, read, travel, go to exhibitions and to the theatre. Learning a foreign language takes time... but it's worth the effort!

Grace, Foreign Languages Coordinator
I truly believe that in the multi-cultural society that we live in today, it is extremely beneficial to be learning another language, not only to better understand one another but to understand each other’s cultures and create stronger relationships, whether it be for business or for fun! Being half French has given me the advantage of a second language and the chance to travel to France from a young age experiencing different cultures and points of views, which I am very grateful for.

What's struck me the most about UIC, since joining in June 2011, is how enthusiastic the students are about the college and how much they seem to enjoy all aspects of their time here - being in the centre of London, meeting other students from different countries (which forces them to practice their English!) and making the most of the full social programme on offer. It is a lively and friendly place to be - either as a student, or as a teacher.

There is no place on earth like London. The whole world is here, every race, every culture and lifestyle, united by a common language, a love of tea and a disdain for the weather! I couldn't imagine living anywhere else, nor a better place to learn English, (except somewhere they actually speak it.)

London’s a great place to come and meet a fascinating variety of people. Every day offers the chance to see and do things you can’t do anywhere else. UIC is right in the centre of all of this, with a great atmosphere to work and study. I’ve been teaching in London for about 10 years now, and this is the most fun I’ve had.

Before I started teaching, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. However, as soon as I started teaching, I found it amazing! I really enjoy the feeling when the students prove that they are learning in my lessons. I'm especially interested in teaching vocabulary - it's great when your students understand the new concepts and start using the language correctly. I think it's really important to teach language with fun games, which helps them remember the vocab. After a couple of days, most students will have remembered the words, and be able to use them confidently.
Teaching at UIC has been great! There's a lovely learning environment.

Valentina, Italian Teacher
Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to travel all over the world, know different cultures and meet foreign people. This passion encouraged me to study foreign languages and Cultural Anthroplogy and later to live and work abroad. Teaching is an extraordinary chance to share my enthusiasm for my language and culture and at the same time to experience that cultural exchange that I always loved. Teaching in an international city like London and in a school like UIC is an invaluable opportunity to bring a bit of Italy in every corner of the world and take with me many pieces of countless countries.

Paul, English Teacher
Having graduated from university with a degree in Linguistics, I spent a couple of years in the wilderness, working in the financial sector. After taking a break to travel the world for a year, I had an epiphany: to find a job in which I could utilise my love of the English language, and simultaneously meet interesting people of different cultures and nationalities from all around the globe. At UIC, I have found an environment in which I can enjoy helping my students achieve their various goals and provide them with the tools to communicate accurately and effectively in a practical way. Hopefully, along the way, as a class we can create and open-minded environment, in which we can learn from one another, and have a little fun too!'

I've been teaching English for several years in various exciting parts of the world and am now settled back in London, my home town, teaching here at UIC. I've worked in other schools buut UIC is the best as it has experienced and motivated teachers as well as students from an amazing variety of backgrounds. Furthermore, as UIC is a well-equipped and well-resourced school, those of us teaching are able to devote ourselves to planning and teaching high quality inspirational lessons.

Teaching Japanese at UIC is exciting, challenging and different every day. The process of teaching and learning Japanese is not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding. London's a great place to be and to learn a language, being it English or another one. The whole world lives here, you'll always get a chance to practice what you've learned in class. On the tube, sometimes all I hear is Italian, feels like I never left the country!
And like everybody, I really enjoy the friendly atmosphere at UIC, it definitely makes learning (and teaching!!) a great experience.

I am a native French speaker, living in the UK for a few years, I am really pleased to share my language and culture with people who are interested in them. The French community is so important in London that it makes it the right place to learn and practice this language ! Using communicative methods, I enjoy to teach at UIC to motivated students coming from various countries who have different needs and expectations. I also appreciate the welcoming environment and the friendly atmosphere.

Nadege, French Teacher
Working in London as a teacher is a great adventure for me. I started teaching because I thought it would be interesting to work in a multicultural environment, and fascinating to analyse your own language and teach it. I have a better idea about what teaching involves now, not only do I like it for those aspects, but also because it's a very creative job. The creativity is my favorite part of teaching. Although it is very challenging, it is also very pleasant to notice student progress.

I have been teaching at UIC for 6 years and I am really enjoying it. I have had the opportunity to teach Spanish to many hundreds of students – from one-to-one lessons to large groups, from beginners to advanced and from social Spanish to business Spanish.
I am friendly, outgoing and love the ‘team’ atmosphere of a lesson as well as working as part of a team of teaching professionals. I am a passionate about the Spanish language and culture , – I never forget that my students are learning how to speak, understand, read and write my language!
