UIC is a Language School right in the heart of London; we are 5 minutes from Oxford Circus so easily accessible from all over the city. We give you the opportunity to learn from the beginning or to develop what you already know and whatever your interest or previous learning experience we will be able to place you into an appropriate class and help you get where you want to be. Lessons are carefully designed to teach you to speak with a special focus on getting the pronunciation right. Different languages evolve in different ways – and meaning can be carried through words or sounds in different combinations. The tones in Chinese (the pronunciation) carry more weight than in other languages and getting them right is a critical part of being able to master the language. You will, of course, also study the grammar and reading and writing. Homework is especially important, it can take some time to master the characters but there are plenty of places in London where it is possible to practice Chinese outside the class and we will help and advise you on the best way to take advantage of these.

   

As everyone knows, Chinese is the most widely used language on Earth. Latest estimates are that over 1.3 billion people might speak Chinese as a first or second language. That’s a lot of people! The most widely used dialect is Mandarin which has over 800 million users, followed a long way behind by Cantonese, Wu and Min with around 70 million each, and then there are further dialects. However, simply because of the numbers the most popular variety, and the one most commonly learned, is Mandarin. This is a massive group of people to communicate with. Within a few years China is destined to be the biggest economy in the world and we are noticing ever increasing numbers of people joining our courses who want to be able to do business with China. Also, considering its fantastic history,  it’s not difficult to find a reason to want to be able to use Chinese.
