The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination is designed for students who wish to study in an English-speaking university or college. The IELTS course prepares students for this examination and also develops their study skills. The course is aimed at students at Upper Intermediate level and above.
Although there are both General and Academic modules, we focus on the Academic one. This consists of papers in reading, writing, listening and speaking. the IELTS course focuses particularly on developing these skills, rather than on giving structural input.
Most UK Universities require an overall IELTS score of between 5.5 and 7.5 depengding on the subject chosen. The maximum score for each paper is 9.0. Candidates achieving an overall band score of 6.0 are regarded as competent users of the language and a score of 9.0 as expert users. A minimum overall band score of 6.0 is therefore recommended to candidates seeking entry to an undergraduate degree course in an Enlgish speaking university or college.
