Champion’s League Final

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Tomorrow evening two of the best teams in Europe, Manchester United and Barcelona will face each other in the Champion’s league final at Wembley. London’s biggest stadium will play host to the final, having last hosted it in 1992. In that year Barcelona won the trophy. Manchester United have also won a European title at Wembley, winning the 1968 final.

Both teams have just won the leagues in their respective country and have very strong sides. Barcelona have the magic feet of Messi, Xavi and Inistea. Many would regard this Barcelona team to be the best team in the world and difficult to beat however it is not impossible, as Arsenal showed earlier in the year. Manchester United also have a host of starts including Rooney, Nani and Carrick. Having surprisingly won the Premier League, it would be silly to bet against them having a change of winning.

The game will be very close to call. If you are studying English in London get yourself down to a traditional London pub to watch they game. You will be sure to meet fans of both teams.

As well has having an entourage of over 1000 people, the Obama’s are here with one  of the most famous cars in the world. 2. The body of the car is made of steel,  aluminium, titanium and ceramic

3. The car has its own oxygen supply.

4, The doors are so thick that when Mr Obama is sitting  inside the car, he can’t hear any outside noise, so speakers play to him
the sound of the crowd.

Do you like ‘Like’?

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Last week we told you about some of the weird and wonderful Celebrity babies names. This week it would seem that one couple read our blog and decided they had a crazier name for their child.

Lior Adler and his wife Vardit from Israeli have decided to call their baby daughter ‘Like’ from the Facebook action to ‘like’ something. The reason for naming their daughter Like was because they wanted something modern and innovative. They even checked if anyone else in Israel had already called their child that.

It would seem that the couple have a love of weird and wonderful names as they have already called one daughter Pie, due to their love of the food and the other daughter Dvash, the Hebrew for Honey.

Celebrity baby names

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

If you’re a celebrity and you’re about to have a baby there is only one thing left for you to do. Go to the book shop and find that ‘crazy baby names’ book because you don’t want to give your baby a regular name like Sarah, John or Peter.

Over the past couple of years celebrities from all over the world have been “battling” each other about who can give their child the most ridiculous names. So far it has been a close contest. Here are some of the names been given so far:

Bear Blu  – Clueless actress, Alicia Silverstone has given then name to her new son.

Moroccan Scott and Monroe – Singer Mariah named her daughter Monroe after her idol Marilyn Monroe and her son Moroccan as this was the room in which Husband Nick Cannon proposed to her. Scott is also Nick’s middle name.

Hero – TV personality has given this name to her new daughter as she like the character Hero from Shakespeare’s Play ‘ Much Ado About Nothing’.

Buddy Bear, Daisy Boo, Poppy Honey and Petal Blossom – Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver and his wife are clearly fans of crazy names having given these names to their 4 children.

Cosima Violet – Claudia Schiffer gave this name to her daughter in 2010.

Egypt Daoud – Alicia Keys choose this exotic name to give to her first son.

Shiloh Nouvel – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went all out with their first child. Shiloh means peaceful one in Hebrew, where are Nouvel is new in French.

Jermajesty – The name given to Jermain Jackson’s son in 2000.

Peaches Honeyblossom, Fif Trxibelle and Pixie – Bob Geldof and his wife Paula Yates were obviously fans of spring names for their daughters.

So out of these names which do you think is the craziest?

Feminists March through London

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

The ‘Slut walks’ have crossed the pond and are coming to the UK. On the 4th of June women from across the UK will gather in Hyde Park and march to Trafalgar Square in the name of feminism and women’s equality.

The March, called the Slut Walks, started in Canada and have already taken place in cities all over the USA. The march and protests were sparked by comments made by a Canadian policeman  who suggested that women should ‘avoid dressing like sluts’ if they wanted to avoid  being raped.  These comments have caused outrage across the world and this anger felt has been used to form and new movement that aims to end the culture of fear and victimisation. The women on the march believe that women should be able to wear what ever they want, when ever they want and should not have to fear the possibility of being attacked due to their items of clothing.  Many women’s groups see this as a great opportunity to speak up for women’s rights. However not all agree on the use of the word slut, which is a very derogatory term.

London always seems to be at the heart of national and international protest. So some and join us.
