What we do
UIC was founded on some simple principles which we have always maintained; we want our language classes to be serious - so you get the most from them but we also want them to be fun and enjoyable - we know that way you learn more. A typical language student at UIC is between 20 and 25 for the English classes and 25-35 for the Foreign language classes (with some older and a few younger). The school is comfortable; with all the facilities you would expect and also offers great value for money.
As well as language classes in London for adults we also have residential vacation courses for children and teenagers in the summer and we teach foreign languages throughout the UK.
Our aims and philosophy
We want you to love learning languages; and we have a simple aim 'we want you to become successful language learners'. We will teach you to be more accurate, more confident and with a broader grasp of the language. We will show you how to continue this outside the class and after you have left the school.
To help us achieve this we have:
Teachers who have the right training and background to able to work with you on different courses to give you the benefits you expect from your course.
| An approach to teaching which is communicative and which will encourage you to improve your language and increase your confidence in using the language. We know different people learn in different ways and we respond to this. |
| A curriculum which will place you accurately in the right class and give you regular progress updates. |
Support staff which includes people looking after your needs outside the classroom - from your enrolment through to your arrival, the school social programme and of course dealing with any problems or questions you might have.
A social programme which takes advantage of being in London and which is varied and interesting.
Accommodation which we can arrange for you either with private families or in residences. All the accommodation we use is carefully checked, some of the residences within walking distance.
| Good use of technology - we don't have technology in the school just for the sake of it but for teachers to use to help you with your learning. There is wifi throughout the school. |
We give you access to our e-learning both while you are in the school and if you want, for one year after you have finished your course. We want you to carry on studying.
| We have a big Foreign Language department - teaching many different languages to English students in the evenings. There is always someone around who can speak your language! |
| The management and owners of the school are in the school and you are able to talk to them any time about anything. |
We understand that sometimes living in a foreign country is not easy, even for a short time, and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. If you are relaxed and comfortable you will learn more! We can arrange your accommodation for you (with families or in residences) - and someone to meet you at the airport. We have a busy social programme including sports as well as cultural and social activities.
On your first day, you will receive an introduction to the college and be given information which will make your stay as successful as possible.
We are also the only school in the world ever to win both the Star Award (voted on by travel agents world-wide) and the British Council Award for Innovation. We are accredited by the British Council and the ISI, we are a member of English UK and we are a Highly Trusted Sponsor of the UKBA. You can read our latest ISI report here.
